President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commissioned the expanded terminal at Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri, describing it as a prime example of effective collaboration between the federal and Borno State governments.
The commissioning took place on Saturday, 20 December 2025, during the President’s visit to the Northeast, which included stops in Borno and Bauchi States. The upgraded terminal features a modern VIP lounge, enhanced passenger facilities, and improved infrastructure designed to accommodate increased air traffic and improve travel services in the region.
In his remarks, President Tinubu commended Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for prioritising people-centred projects, noting that initiatives such as the upgraded airport reflect a shared commitment to boosting economic activity, regional connectivity, and quality of life for residents.
The President also highlighted the Federal Government’s broader aviation strategy, aimed at expanding international airport capacity nationwide and strengthening regional transport hubs. The Maiduguri terminal is expected to enhance passenger experience, increase flight handling capacity, and stimulate socio-economic opportunities in the North-East.
