Tennis great Novak Djokovic has announced he is stepping away from the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), five years after co-founding the organization with fellow player Vasek Pospisil.
In a statement shared on X on January 4, Djokovic said the decision followed “careful consideration,” citing ongoing concerns around transparency, governance, and how his voice and image have been represented.
“I am proud of the vision that Vasek and I shared when founding the PTPA—giving players a stronger, independent voice,” Djokovic said. “But it has become clear that my values and approach are no longer aligned with the current direction of the organization.”
While wishing the PTPA and its members well, the 38-year-old emphasized that he is closing this chapter of his career and turning his attention elsewhere.
“I will continue to focus on my tennis, my family, and contributing to the sport in ways that reflect my principles and integrity,” he added.
Djokovic co-launched the PTPA in 2020 as an alternative players’ body aimed at advocating for athletes’ rights and welfare within professional tennis.
