President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the nomination of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The appointment, in line with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, follows the recent reassignment of the former Deputy Governor, Mr Bala Bello, who was appointed Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

President Tinubu has charged the appointees to perform their duties with dedication, professionalism, and commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.

Yuguda’s most recent public role was as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, a position he held from 2020 to 2024. He is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in 1983 with a B.Sc. in Accountancy, and obtained a master’s degree in Money, Banking, and Finance from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, in 1991.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a CFA charterholder.

Yuguda began his career in 1984 at the CBN as a Senior Supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department. He also served as an economist in the Africa Department of the International Monetary Fund between 1997 and 2001 before returning to the CBN, where he later served as Director of the Reserve Management Department until his retirement in 2016.
