Nine senators from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) on Thursday announced their defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on the floor of the Senate.

The lawmakers formally declared their new political affiliation during proceedings in the Senate chamber, marking a significant shift in party alignment within the upper legislative chamber.

Those who defected include Senator Ireti Kingibe representing the Federal Capital Territory, who moved from the Labour Party to the ADC, and Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo of Nasarawa South, who defected from the PDP.

Also joining the ADC are Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto South, PDP), Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe (Adamawa South, PDP), and Senator Austin Akobundu (Abia Central, PDP).

Others are Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South), who defected from APGA, Senator Victor Umeh (Anambra Central, LP), Senator Tony Nwoye (Anambra North, LP), and Senator Lawal Adamu Usman (Kaduna Central, PDP).

The defections were announced during plenary, with the senators citing political realignment and the need to pursue their legislative and political objectives on a new platform.
