The Federal Government has called on media practitioners to exercise caution and responsibility in the reporting of security-related issues across the country, warning that the spread of unverified information during crises could mislead the public and undermine ongoing national security operations.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the appeal in Abuja while addressing recent military operations, including air strikes carried out by the Nigerian Air Force in parts of Borno State.
Idris stressed that while the media plays a crucial role in informing the public, it must also ensure accuracy and verification, especially when reporting sensitive security developments. He noted that responsible journalism is essential to supporting the efforts of security agencies and maintaining public confidence during operations aimed at restoring peace in affected areas.
