Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the People’s Redemption Party (PRP).

The senator’s defection comes just days after he withdrew from the APC governorship primary election in Bauchi State.

Buba announced his resignation from the ruling party amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His move to the PRP is expected to reshape the political landscape in Bauchi State, where preparations for the next governorship contest are already gathering momentum.

The lawmaker, however, has yet to publicly state the full reasons behind his decision to leave the APC.
