The Federal Government says Nigeria has recorded a major improvement in its security situation, with terror-related deaths declining by 81% since 2015 and more than 13,000 terrorists neutralised within the past year.
The announcement was made by the Presidency as part of an update on ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the country.
According to the statement, the gains are attributed to sustained military pressure on terrorist groups, improved coordination among security agencies, and enhanced intelligence-led operations.
The government also disclosed that over 124,000 fighters and their associates have surrendered in various theatres of operation. In addition, more than 2.1 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have reportedly returned to their communities as security conditions improve in previously affected regions.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to consolidate the progress through stabilisation, reconstruction, and reintegration programmes aimed at restoring long-term peace and security nationwide.
The Presidency described the figures as evidence of “significant and measurable progress” in the country’s fight against terrorism. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
