At least 20 people have been killed following a deadly attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on Fasken Rafi community in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community in the early hours of Sunday, unleashing violence that left dozens of residents dead and several others injured.
Witnesses said the assailants attacked without warning, forcing many villagers to flee for safety as gunfire echoed across the area.
Local authorities confirmed that the attack claimed the lives of at least 20 people, while injured victims were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Security operatives have since been deployed to the community to restore order and prevent further attacks.
In response to the incident, the Kebbi State Government dispatched a delegation led by Deputy Governor Umar Tafida to sympathize with affected families and assess the situation on the ground. The delegation assured residents of the government’s commitment to strengthening security and protecting vulnerable communities from future attacks.
Condemning the killings, state officials described the attack as a senseless act of violence and pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The latest assault underscores the persistent security challenges facing parts of northwestern Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to target rural communities despite ongoing military operations aimed at curbing insecurity.
