FIFA has confirmed that a brief technical outage occurred during the Qatar vs Switzerland match, affecting the generation of the onside animation graphic used for broadcast presentation. The incident took place just before the penalty awarded to Switzerland in the 14th minute.
The governing body explained that the issue was limited strictly to the visual graphics system and did not impact any officiating or decision-making tools used during the match.
Despite the disruption, FIFA stated that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system remained fully functional throughout the incident, and the review process continued without interruption.
Officials further clarified that standard VAR protocols were followed in assessing the on-field decision, with no deviation from established procedures during the review.
FIFA added that the offside lines examined by VAR showed no infringement by the attacking player in either of the two phases leading up to the penalty incident, and the decision was therefore confirmed as correct.
