The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has said several major road projects in the South-East, originally conceived during the colonial era but abandoned for decades, are now being executed under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during an inspection tour of federal projects in Ebonyi State on Saturday, Umahi highlighted the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue Trans-Sahara Superhighway as one of the key infrastructure projects being revived by the Tinubu administration.

According to the minister, the project, which connects the South-East, South-South and parts of the North-Central region, is progressing steadily, with construction ongoing on multiple sections. He described the highway as an economic corridor that will boost trade, agriculture and regional connectivity, while also strengthening links between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Umahi noted that the use of concrete road technology has enabled work to continue even during the rainy season, adding that the project is already recording significant progress in some sections.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for what he described as renewed federal attention to the South-East, saying the region is now benefiting from greater inclusion in national infrastructure development.

The inspection team visited several ongoing projects, including major bridges and road sections in Ebonyi State, as well as the Onueke Flyover project, which is expected to ease traffic congestion in the area.

Meanwhile, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru commended President Tinubu’s infrastructure drive and highlighted ongoing development projects across the state, including roads, primary healthcare centres and water schemes.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to security, describing Ebonyi as one of the safest states in the country.

South-East governors and political leaders are expected to gather in Abakaliki on Monday for a major rally in support of President Tinubu’s second-term bid.

The ongoing South-East inspection is part of the Renewed Hope Media Tour led by the Presidential Communications Team. The delegation is expected to continue its tour in Enugu, Abia, Anambra and Imo states to inspect projects being implemented under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
