Man Sentenced to Death in Kogi for Kidnapping and Murder

A High Court sitting in Kogi State has sentenced a man to death by hanging after finding him guilty of kidnapping and murder.

The court ruled that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict took part in the abduction of victims and their subsequent killing.

Delivering judgment, the trial judge described the offences as serious crimes that violate both state and national laws.
Court records showed that the victims were abducted and later killed, an act the court said posed a severe threat to public safety and order.

The defendant was therefore convicted and sentenced to death in line with Nigeria’s criminal justice system, which allows capital punishment for offences such as murder and certain cases of kidnapping.

Although death sentences remain legal in Nigeria, executions are rarely carried out, as they require final approval from state authorities. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
