Popular Hausa praise singer and political commentator, Dauda Kahutu Rarara, has criticised Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido, accusing him of projecting Nigeria negatively during a recent international appearance.
Rarara made the remarks while reacting to Davido’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup countdown concert, where the singer appeared on stage wearing a jacket with the inscription “Bring Them Home” and displaying the names of abducted schoolchildren from Oyo State.
According to Rarara, Davido’s action, though emotional, was inappropriate for an international stage and amounted to “embarrassing Nigeria globally.” He argued that such sensitive national issues should not be publicly displayed in a manner that could harm the country’s image.
In a video shared on social media, Rarara questioned the intention behind the gesture, suggesting that it risked misrepresenting Nigeria and its security situation to the world. He further claimed that the matter of insecurity requires careful handling by authorities and should not be turned into what he described as “public political messaging.”
He also alleged that Davido’s actions may have been politically motivated, linking the display to broader political interests and ongoing national debates around insecurity.
Rarara warned that security issues are delicate and should be approached with caution, insisting that individuals without full understanding of the situation could unintentionally worsen public perception of the country.
The comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters of Davido defending his actions as advocacy for abducted victims, while others agreed with Rarara that national issues should be handled more carefully on global platforms.
Davido has not officially responded to the criticism at the time of filing this report.
