The Oyo State Government has announced the end of the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area, allowing residents to resume their normal daily activities.

The curfew, which was initially imposed as a 16-hour restriction before being extended by an additional 24 hours, was introduced to support security operations in communities bordering the Old Oyo National Park after the abduction of pupils and teachers in May.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, thanked residents for their patience, cooperation and understanding during the enforcement of the curfew. He assured the public that the state government remains committed to working with security agencies to ensure lasting peace and bring the kidnapping case to a successful conclusion.

The affected local government areas are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.

The curfew followed the abduction of 45 pupils and teachers from three schools in Oriire on May 15. One of the abducted teachers was later reported killed by the kidnappers, prompting the state government to tighten security measures across the affected areas before eventually lifting the restriction after reviewing the security situation.
