Relief swept through Eda Oniyo-Ekiti in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Saturday as worshippers of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igbala, who were abducted during a church revival programme, regained their freedom after spending 67 days in captivity.
The victims were released late on Friday and returned to their community in the early hours of Saturday, ending weeks of anxiety for their families and residents.
The worshippers were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, when armed men invaded the church’s prayer mountain during a revival service. The attackers reportedly shot and killed the presiding pastor before abducting 15 worshippers and taking them into the forest.
Community sources said the freed victims have been taken to a medical facility for medical examination and treatment following the physical and emotional trauma they experienced during their ordeal.
However, the joy of their return was tempered by tragedy, as one of the abducted worshippers reportedly died while in captivity.
Security agencies are expected to continue investigations aimed at apprehending those responsible for the attack, while residents expressed gratitude over the safe return of the remaining victims. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
