A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday at the popular Alaba Rago market in the Ojo area of Lagos State, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), confirmed that the fire began at midnight. The exact cause of the fire, whether immediate or underlying, remains unknown at the time of this report.
Upon receiving distress calls, the LASEMA team swiftly responded, activating the State’s emergency protocols and deploying its Emergency Response Team from Igando.
When the Dolphin Response Team arrived at the scene, they found several shanty shops engulfed in flames. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, along with LASEMA and other responders, worked tirelessly to control the fire.
Dr. Oke-Osayintolu and Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, assured that the situation was brought under control and the fire was prevented from spreading to nearby properties.
