President Bola Tinubu has attributed the recent tragic stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and Abuja, which claimed multiple lives, to indiscipline and poor organization during the distribution of palliatives. Speaking during his first presidential media chat on Monday, Tinubu expressed his condolences to the families of the victims while emphasizing the need for better coordination in such events.

“It is very sad that people are not well organized. We just have to be more disciplined in our society. Condolences to those who lost a family member,” the President said.

Tinubu, reflecting on his own experiences with charity, highlighted the importance of proper planning and restraint to avoid chaotic situations. “It is good to give,” he said. “I have been giving out foodstuffs, commodities, including envelopes, for the last 25 years. I have never experienced this kind of incident because we are organized, disciplined. And if you know you don’t have enough to give, don’t attempt to even publicize it.”

The recent incidents have drawn widespread attention, with multiple deaths and injuries reported during the distribution of food items in Anambra and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday. These events prompted the Inspector General of Police to advise charity organizers to involve security agencies and adhere to strict crowd and safety management protocols.

The tragedies followed another heartbreaking incident in Ibadan, where over 30 children lost their lives during a stampede at a children’s funfair a few days earlier.

Tinubu’s remarks underline the critical need for disciplined, well-structured charity events to prevent future occurrences of such devastating events. The President’s call for better organization comes as the nation mourns the victims and reflects on how to ensure safety and dignity during aid distributions.
