Speaking at the Africa CEO Forum Presidential Panel in Kigali, Rwanda, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called for a renewed focus on intra-African cooperation, urging African nations to prioritise continental development through stronger economic integration and collaboration.

He stressed that Africa’s long-term growth cannot depend primarily on external engagement, but must be driven by stronger internal linkages, including expanded trade among African countries, improved infrastructure corridors, and increased support for innovation and youth-driven enterprises.

According to the President, Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms are aimed not only at addressing past structural challenges but also at positioning the country to play a leading role in Africa’s future economy. He highlighted key frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), digital trade expansion, logistics improvement, commodities exchanges, and stronger private sector partnerships as critical tools for unlocking continental prosperity.

Tinubu also noted the need for reforms in the global financial and risk architecture to better reflect Africa’s economic realities and development priorities.

He commended Rwandan President Paul Kagame for his leadership and hospitality, describing Rwanda as an example of disciplined execution and development-focused governance.

The President reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with Rwanda and other African partners to build a more connected, productive, and competitive continent, stating that Africa’s future must be deliberately built, owned, and protected by Africans themselves.
