The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has airlifted sensitive electoral materials for the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship election and a series of by-elections scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
The airlift operation, conducted between June 15 and 16, followed a request by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the secure and timely distribution of election materials from Abuja to designated locations across the country.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said the mission underscores the Air Force’s constitutional responsibility to provide aid to civil authorities and support democratic processes.
According to him, the operation covered the movement of sensitive materials required for the Ekiti governorship election as well as several legislative by-elections nationwide.
The affected by-elections include the Enugu North Senatorial District in Enugu State, Nasarawa North Senatorial District in Nasarawa State, Rivers South East Senatorial District in Rivers State, Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, and Zuru/Shanga Federal Constituency in Kebbi State.
Ejodame said the deployment was aimed at strengthening electoral logistics and ensuring that all sensitive materials arrive at their destinations ahead of the polls.
He added that the operation reflects NAF’s commitment to supporting credible, peaceful and transparent elections through efficient logistical support.
The Ekiti governorship election is one of Nigeria’s off-cycle polls, with eligible voters expected to elect a governor for a new four-year term. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
