The family of late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has rejected claims by the Katsina State Government that he died from complications linked to diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.
The disagreement follows official statements indicating that the former senior military officer, who was abducted alongside his wife in Katsina State, died due to underlying medical conditions during his time in captivity.
However, speaking on behalf of the family, his son, Isyaka Rabe, insisted that his father had no known history of diabetes or high blood pressure. He described the government’s explanation as inaccurate and said the family is still seeking clarity on the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
Isyaka further noted that the family is considering other possible causes, including reports circulating on social media suggesting a snake bite, although he stressed that no conclusion has been confirmed.
The late general was reportedly held by armed abductors who later released a video demanding concessions, including the release of detained fighters and recovery of confiscated livestock.
Questions have also emerged over how the general’s body was recovered, with the family saying they were not involved in the process and have demanded further clarification from authorities.
Meanwhile, security agencies have confirmed his death and say efforts are ongoing to secure the release of his wife, who remains in captivity.
As of now, no independent medical report has been made public to confirm the exact cause of death, leaving conflicting accounts between government officials and the family unresolved. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
