The Oyo State Government has introduced fresh security measures, including restrictions on commercial motorcycle (okada) operations, following the recent abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
Governor Seyi Makinde signed Executive Order No. 001 of 2026 to strengthen security across the state and curb the activities of criminal elements. Under the directive, commercial motorcycles are prohibited from operating between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
The order also provides for stricter regulation of vigilante and community security groups, while enhancing collaboration among security agencies operating in the state.
The measures come in response to the recent school abduction incident in Oriire, which raised concerns over the growing threat of kidnapping in parts of the South-West.
Governor Makinde said the restrictions are aimed at improving intelligence gathering, limiting the movement of criminals and protecting residents as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims.
