Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the 2027 senatorial race.

He reportedly stepped down and handed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket to a former Commissioner for Finance, Faruk Malami-Yabo.

Party officials said the decision followed consultations within the party and internal disagreements over candidate selection. They also explained that the move was aimed at promoting unity and strengthening internal democracy within the ADC in Sokoto State.

According to the party leadership, Tambuwal’s withdrawal was part of efforts to maintain harmony and support younger politicians within the party structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Following his withdrawal, Faruk Malami-Yabo emerged as the party’s senatorial candidate for Sokoto South.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments within opposition parties in Sokoto State ahead of the next general election.
