Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2027 general election.

Makinde made the announcement while addressing supporters and political stakeholders, stating that he had decided to join the race for the nation’s highest political office.

“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, hereby announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

The declaration places the Oyo State governor among the early political figures expected to influence conversations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Makinde, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics, has served as governor of Oyo State since 2019 and is widely regarded as one of the influential voices within his party and the country’s political landscape.
