President Bola Tinubu has said Nigeria’s foreign policy is now centred on the interests and welfare of Nigerians, as his administration reorders the country’s diplomatic priorities.

Speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, during the induction programme for newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners in Abuja, Tinubu said the government had repositioned the nation’s foreign policy framework to ensure greater benefits for citizens.

The President explained that the administration had reordered the country’s “4D Doctrine” of foreign policy from democracy, development, demography and diaspora to demography, development, diaspora and democracy, placing Nigerians at the centre of diplomatic engagements.

Tinubu also charged the envoys to aggressively pursue foreign investments, strengthen strategic partnerships and improve Nigeria’s international image. He urged them to adopt modern and results-oriented diplomacy through digital engagement, public diplomacy and strategic communication.

According to the President, the global system is rapidly changing due to shifting geopolitical realities, economic uncertainties, technological disruptions, climate challenges and emerging security threats, making the role of diplomats more critical than ever.
