Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to resolving long-standing grievances fueling insecurity in Nigeria and the wider region. He made this known after presenting his letter of credence to UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the United Nations headquarters in New York. He noted that addressing these generational grievances is key to achieving lasting peace and stability both within Nigeria and across West Africa.
Ibrahim explained that Tinubu believes Nigeria’s strengthened presence at the United Nations will provide essential support in tackling security challenges locally and internationally. He said the administration sees multilateral engagement as critical to confronting emerging threats and building stronger global partnerships.
He further stated that the government is focused on resolving religious conflicts and other crises rooted in long-standing disputes, while also mobilising international support to address security concerns in the Sahel region. Ibrahim reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to peacebuilding, cooperation, and economic reforms aimed at ensuring long-term stability despite current challenges.
