A group of 10 governorship aspirants and members of the APC Elders Caucus in Kwara State have rejected the outcome of the party’s governorship primary election that produced Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as the APC candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The aggrieved aspirants and party elders alleged that the primary process lacked credibility and did not reflect the will of party members. They expressed concerns over the implications of the outcome for party unity and electoral success in the state.
The group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC to intervene and address their grievances, arguing that broader consultations among stakeholders are necessary to preserve harmony within the party.
According to them, the party should take steps to ensure fairness, inclusiveness, and transparency in its internal processes as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
However, the Kwara APC and supporters of the outcome have defended the primary election, maintaining that the process was conducted in line with party guidelines and that the candidate emerged through a valid and legitimate exercise.
The development has highlighted growing internal disagreements within the Kwara APC as stakeholders continue to debate the outcome of the governorship primary ahead of the 2027 elections.
