ECOWAS Deploys Standby Force to Tackle Insurgency

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has activated its Standby Force to tackle terrorism and other transborder crimes across the subregion.

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, announced the decision on Tuesday in Abuja during the 43rd Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff. He emphasized that economic growth in the region is closely tied to sustained peace and stability.

Badaru also urged ECOWAS member states to unite in addressing security threats, stressing the need for collective action to safeguard the region.
