Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed admiration for Governor Dauda Lawal’s leadership in Zamfara State, commending his impactful projects and dedication to state development. Obasanjo made the remarks during the commissioning of key projects in Gusau, the state capital.

On Tuesday, former President Obasanjo inaugurated the newly renovated Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, alongside two significant road projects, Zannah Road to Abarma Road and Tsalha Bungudu Road to Kwanar Birnin Ruwa Road. These milestones mark a new era for Zamfara, according to both leaders.

A statement from Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Lawal’s spokesperson, highlighted the introduction of advanced medical technologies in the hospital, such as a CT scan and MRI machine—facilities that are rare even in some teaching hospitals across Nigeria. This is the first time the state has secured these vital diagnostic tools, which will greatly benefit healthcare delivery in Zamfara.

During the hospital’s commissioning, Obasanjo remarked, “I am in Zamfara today to see the new, improved, and improving Zamfara under your leadership.” He continued, “The CT scan and MRI machines are working and providing service, which is a remarkable achievement for this hospital.”

Obasanjo praised the state’s progress, noting, “Here you have it; it is working and providing service. I have great pleasure to be here, to commission this remodeled and reequipped hospital for the well-being and welfare of everybody that will come here.”

Governor Lawal expressed his gratitude to the former president, acknowledging his role in shaping Nigeria’s agricultural and healthcare policies. He said, “On behalf of all the citizens of Zamfara State, thank you for honoring our invitation and welcome to your second home, Zamfara State.”

The Governor also provided details about the hospital’s upgrade, which includes new facilities for Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Radiology Complex, and a Laboratory Complex. A patient relaxation arena, along with beautified hospital landscapes, enhances the overall healthcare environment. Additionally, newly built doctors’ residential quarters were completed, improving the living conditions for medical staff.

The expansion also featured significant upgrades across 14 key departments, including radiology, surgery, ophthalmology, and physiotherapy, ensuring that the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Governor Lawal emphasized that the hospital’s transformation is aligned with the state’s vision to become a referral center for complex medical cases, a credible training ground for healthcare professionals, and a hub for medical research and innovation.

In addition to healthcare, the newly inaugurated roads are expected to improve connectivity and ease transportation within Gusau, reinforcing the governor’s commitment to modernizing Zamfara’s infrastructure.
