Nigeria’s Super Falcons were crowned champions of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a dramatic 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco in a thrilling final on Friday night, July 26.

Morocco took a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy, leaving the home crowd buzzing with anticipation. But Nigeria, known for their resilience, roared back in the second half. Esther Okoronkwo sparked the comeback in the 64th minute, followed by a powerful equalizer from Jennifer Echegini in the 75th.

Echegini then sealed her brace — and Nigeria’s record-extending WAFCON title — with a dramatic winner in the 88th minute, completing one of the most memorable turnarounds in the tournament’s history. The victory marks Nigeria’s 12th WAFCON title, reinforcing their status as the undisputed queens of African women’s football.
