In a significant military operation aimed at disrupting Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents, Nigerian troops have successfully neutralized 17 terrorists during a series of clearance operations across Borno and Adamawa states. The coordinated efforts, carried out by the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), resulted in the recovery of a large cache of weapons and terrorist logistics.
Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the news in a statement, revealing that the offensive operations spanned from July 23 to August 2, 2025, in local government areas (LGAs) including Bama, Konduga, Gwoza, Magumeri, and Biu in Borno, as well as Michika in Adamawa.
The troops, who were supported by air strikes and the Civilian Joint Task Force, engaged in several types of military actions, including fighting patrols, ambushes, and clearance missions. These efforts led to the neutralization of multiple Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters and the destruction of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by the terrorists.
“In a sustained effort to deny Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists the freedom to operate, our troops continued offensive operations across the region. This resulted in the neutralization of several terrorists and the recovery of assorted arms, ammunition, and essential logistics,” Captain Kovangiya stated.
Key Military Actions and Recoveries
Troops were also successful in clearing key areas, including Bula Daburu, Alau Dam, and Bitta, where they eliminated over 17 terrorists. They recovered several weapons, including AK-47 rifles, a PKT gun, and a substantial amount of 7.62mm ammunition. Additionally, terrorist supplies such as over 2,300 liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), 1,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), motorcycles, generators, and bags of rice were seized.
In a strategic move, more than 14 IEDs, intended to harm civilians and military personnel, were neutralized during the operations. Kovangiya emphasized that the troops’ vigilance played a crucial role in safeguarding civilian lives in these volatile areas.
Socio-Economic Support Amidst Military Success
The military’s efforts not only focused on combat but also facilitated the return of 987 internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes in Biu LGA. This initiative is in line with the Borno State Government’s resettlement plan, which aims to revive the region’s socio-economic activities.
“Through the efforts of our forces, over 987 IDPs were safely returned to their ancestral homes in Mandaragrau, in line with the state government’s resettlement strategy,” Kovangiya remarked.
International Collaboration and Strategic Partnerships
In addition to domestic efforts, OPHK troops also engaged in joint operations with Nigerien forces around the Diffa-Duji-Damasak corridor. This partnership enhances both the security and economic stability in the region, reinforcing the commitment to cross-border cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
“The collaboration with Nigerien forces is part of our broader efforts to ensure peace and stability in the Northeast and the surrounding regions,” Captain Kovangiya added.
A Strong Military Commitment to Peace
These operations reflect OPHK’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace in the Northeast of Nigeria, with military high command backing the sustained offensive campaigns. The Nigerian military continues to take decisive actions to ensure the region remains secure, allowing citizens to live in safety and allowing for the restoration of socio-economic development.
As the fight against terrorism in Nigeria continues, these military victories represent significant progress in the battle to rid the country of insurgents and restore peace to the Northeast.
