President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Professor Ademola Adenle, a Nigerian sustainability expert, for winning the inaugural World Academy of Sciences–M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace. Receiving him at the State House, the President praised Adenle for bringing honour to Nigeria through his work in agricultural innovation, renewable energy, and public health. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, also attended the meeting.
Professor Adenle, who serves as Senior Special Adviser on Agricultural Innovation, was honoured by India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in New Delhi for his contributions to food security, climate justice, and the empowerment of vulnerable communities. The global award, described as a “mini Nobel Peace Prize,” recognises transformative efforts in food and peacebuilding across developing nations.
During the visit, Adenle announced plans to launch the Women in Biosciences Initiative, aimed at empowering rural women through training, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The programme will address malnutrition, promote renewable energy, and enhance agricultural productivity across Africa and Asia in partnership with the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation.
