President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, following his triumph in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday. Senator Okpebholo was officially declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, overcoming his political rivals to secure the governorship seat.
In his congratulatory message, President Tinubu commended the efforts of the APC leadership, including national and state leaders, as well as the party’s governors, for their dedication in ensuring the party’s success. He described the victory as a reflection of the people’s endorsement of the APC’s progressive ideals, its economic agenda, and its commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.
The President urged Senator Okpebholo to approach his victory with humility, viewing it as a call to serve the people of Edo State rather than an occasion for gloating. He encouraged the senator to reach out to his political opponents, fostering unity among the state’s diverse population to drive its development forward.
President Tinubu also acknowledged the contributions of other candidates in the race, praising them for their role in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy. He noted that the peaceful nature of the election demonstrated the country’s growing political stability.
In his statement, Tinubu called on any aggrieved parties to seek redress through legal means, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and following due process in contesting electoral outcomes.
Furthermore, the President commended the people of Edo State for their orderly conduct during the election, highlighting the maturity of Nigeria’s democracy as the country marks 25 years of democratic governance. He also lauded INEC and the nation’s security agencies for their round-the-clock efforts in ensuring a peaceful and largely hitch-free electoral process.
“INEC has once again demonstrated that it is committed to organising a free and fair election in our country,” President Tinubu remarked, underscoring the success of the electoral body in delivering another credible election.
