The Nigerian Senate has proposed the adoption of 112 as a uniform emergency number for reporting emergencies across the country. The initiative aims to streamline emergency response and make it easier for citizens to access urgent assistance.

Speaking during the debate on the bill, Senator Abdulaziz Yaradua, the sponsor, explained that multiple emergency numbers are currently in use by various government agencies. He noted that this fragmentation often hinders timely response during critical situations.

Senator Yaradua emphasized that 112 is simple to learn, easy to remember, and quick to dial, making it an effective solution for improving emergency services nationwide.

The proposed measure, if passed, will provide Nigerians with a single, reliable number to report emergencies, enhancing coordination among security, medical, and other emergency agencies.
