The Nigeria Police Force has reported a high level of compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties nationwide.
A special enforcement team set up by the Force Headquarters conducted a large-scale monitoring operation on Saturday, 6 December 2025, across major locations in Lagos State, including the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other strategic points.
According to findings released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the team observed no cases of unauthorised police escorts, indicating full adherence to the presidential order. No arrests were necessary as officers were found to be complying with the new policy.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to implementing the directive, stressing that redeploying officers back to core policing duties will strengthen nationwide security, improve crime prevention, and enhance the overall safety of citizens.
The Police assured Nigerians that enforcement of the policy would continue across the country and called for public cooperation as efforts intensify to build a more professional and citizen-focused police service.
