President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his deepest condolences to the family of Oluwole-Johnson following the passing of their patriarch, Ben Oluwole-Johnson, a prominent U.S.-based business executive and estate magnate. Mr. Oluwole-Johnson passed away on September 17, 2024, in Crete, Illinois, at the age of 72. His burial rites will commence on Friday, with the final burial slated for October 5.

In a heartfelt personal tribute, President Tinubu described the late Oluwole-Johnson, former governorship aspirant of Ondo State and Chief Executive Officer of Benol Management & Development Company, as an exceptionally intelligent and forward-looking individual.

“His rugged determination and tenacity reflected the passion we all shared for Nigeria,” President Tinubu remarked, further noting that while Oluwole-Johnson’s exuberance sometimes led to challenges, it was a reflection of his vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to improving himself, his community, and the nation.

Reflecting on their shared interactions during their time in Chicago, Illinois, President Tinubu fondly recalled Mr. Ben’s brilliance, which was evident in his business acumen and intellectual prowess. He praised Oluwole-Johnson’s philanthropy, particularly highlighting his role in securing and donating over $42 million worth of hospital equipment to Nigeria, with a focus on Lagos State. The President emphasized that despite the extensive efforts involved, Oluwole-Johnson never sought personal compensation for his contributions.

President Tinubu also paid tribute to Oluwole-Johnson’s passion for Nigeria, which was exemplified by his bid to become the governor of Ondo State. Although his campaign was unsuccessful, it earned his wife, Moji, the affectionate title of “First Lady” among their supporters and within President Tinubu’s close circle.

The President lauded Oluwole-Johnson’s enduring commitment to Nigeria, even as his health declined. He recalled the late magnate’s active involvement in “The Caring Group,” a collective formed to express their love for Nigeria, particularly Lagos State. Despite his failing health, Oluwole-Johnson continued to offer his business expertise, with his wife stepping in to carry out his wishes when necessary.

“We will sorely miss Mr. Ben, but we take solace in the great family he leaves behind. May he rest in perfect peace,” President Tinubu concluded.
