
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will depart Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, for a State Visit to the United Kingdom as guests of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The visit, scheduled from March 18 to March 19 at Windsor Castle, marks the first by a Nigerian leader in 37 years and makes President Tinubu the first Nigerian leader to be hosted by the British monarch at the royal residence.
During the visit, the President and the First Lady will view a special exhibition of items from the Royal Collection related to Nigeria. President Tinubu will also hold private discussions with King Charles and meet organisations engaged in interfaith dialogue both nationally and internationally. The Royal Family will host a State Banquet in honour of the Nigerian guests.
President Tinubu is scheduled for a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, where senior officials of both countries will expand engagement and sign various Memoranda of Understanding and agreements, including those on trade, investment, defence, and cultural cooperation. He will also witness the signing of a £746 million financing deal between UK Export Finance (UKEF) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to refurbish the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and Tin Can Island Port Complex. The President will be the guest of honour at the Nigerian Modernism exhibition and will meet with Nigerian and British business leaders as well as the diaspora community before returning to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
Members of the President’s entourage include Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN; Ministers Dele Alake, Idris Mohammed, Bianca Ojukwu, Wale Edun, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Hannatu Musawa, Bosun Tijani, and General Christopher Musa (rtd); National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
