The Federal Government, under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved the introduction of electric buses for civil servants as part of efforts to modernise public transportation and promote clean energy in Nigeria.
The initiative, announced by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), is expected to improve staff mobility while reducing environmental impact.
According to the Director-General of NADDC, Joseph Osanipin, the buses will be sourced from local manufacturers to boost the domestic automotive industry, create jobs, and reduce reliance on imported vehicles.
He added that charging infrastructure is also being put in place to ensure the smooth operation of the electric buses.
The development reflects the administration’s commitment to sustainable energy, industrial growth, and improved welfare for public servants.
