
The Nigerian Army has unveiled a major leadership shake-up, announcing the redeployment and appointment of senior officers to key operational, command, training, and administrative positions across the country.
The changes, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, are aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness, enhancing command efficiency, and improving the Army’s response to evolving security challenges nationwide.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, Major General WM Dangana has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE.
Major General EI Okoro was named GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE.
The reshuffle also saw Major General JR Lar appointed Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola was named Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri retained his position as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.
Other appointments include Brigadier General IB Buhari as Commander, Headquarters 63 Brigade, and Brigadier General K Rabiu as Commander, Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
In the training and strategic institutions, Major General SA Emmanuel was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, Major General KE Chigbu became Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General SD Makolo was named Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, Major General SO Adejimi will lead the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, while Major General FS Etim was appointed Chief of Training at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).
The Army said the redeployments form part of efforts to reposition the service for greater efficiency in tackling the country’s security challenges.
