Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed the chances of his northern rivals, including Rabiu Kwankwaso and Aminu Tambuwal, in securing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Atiku reportedly stated that none of the northern contenders can match his electoral strength, particularly in terms of voter base across the region. He argued that Kwankwaso’s influence remains largely concentrated in Kano State and is no longer as dominant as it once was.
He also placed Tambuwal and other northern aspirants among those he believes lack the nationwide political reach required to compete effectively at the presidential level.
Despite his position, Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles within the party, noting that he would respect the outcome of the ADC primaries and step down if defeated.
The development underscores growing competition within the ADC, as several prominent political figures continue to position themselves for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket, raising concerns about internal divisions within the opposition.
