Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has launched a strong counterattack against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of hypocrisy, historical distortion, and political desperation in a fresh escalation of political tensions.

In a statement released on Friday, Atiku dismissed recent criticisms from the presidency, insisting that his political record remains “clear and well documented.” He argued that attempts to portray him negatively amount to a deliberate effort to rewrite history for political advantage.

The former vice-president maintained that his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and economic reforms are on record and cannot be erased by what he described as propaganda-driven narratives. He further accused the Tinubu administration of focusing on personal attacks rather than addressing pressing national challenges.

Atiku also described the criticism directed at him as politically motivated, suggesting it reflects growing anxiety within the ruling camp as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. He warned against what he sees as attempts to mislead Nigerians through distortion of facts and selective interpretation of past events.

The development underscores the deepening rivalry between the ruling All Progressives Congress and opposition figures, particularly as both sides position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
