Reno Omokri Accuses Peter Obi of Misrepresenting Nigeria’s Debt Profile

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has accused former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of misleading Nigerians over the country’s debt profile under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a video circulating online, Omokri claimed that Nigeria’s total debt has reduced under Tinubu when measured in dollar terms, alleging that Obi manipulates the figures by citing the debt in naira.

According to Omokri, exchange rate fluctuations and the devaluation of the naira significantly affect the country’s debt figures when converted to local currency.

He challenged Obi to present Nigeria’s debt profile in dollars rather than naira, insisting that doing so would show that the debt burden had actually declined.

The remarks come amid ongoing debates over Nigeria’s economic reforms, rising public debt and the impact of foreign exchange policies under the Tinubu administration.
