President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the removal of Mr Saidu Mohammed as the Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The President subsequently nominated Mr Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new Chief Executive of the agency, with the appointment subject to confirmation by the Senate.

The Presidency said the decision was taken in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 and forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory effectiveness in the nation’s midstream and downstream petroleum sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Mr Umar brings over 25 years of experience spanning the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. He is recognised for his expertise in strategic leadership, operational transformation, and the delivery of major projects.

He holds a degree in Accounting from Bayero University and is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School.

Pending Senate confirmation, the most senior official of the NMDPRA will oversee the affairs of the authority in an acting capacity.

President Tinubu commended the outgoing Authority Chief Executive for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours.

The Presidency reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to providing effective leadership across critical regulatory institutions to support energy security, sectoral reforms, and sustainable economic growth.
