President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly endorsed the selection of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

The endorsement followed consultations within the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the apex political decision-making body of the APC in the state, which settled for Hamzat as the party’s preferred candidate ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Party insiders said the move is aimed at sustaining continuity within the Lagos political structure and consolidating ongoing governance reforms in the state.

Hamzat, who currently serves as deputy governor under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been a longstanding figure within the Lagos APC political establishment and previously held commissioner positions in the state.

The development is expected to shape early political alignments within the APC as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
