Shettima Departs Abuja for Benin Presidential Inauguration on Tinubu’s Representation

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Cotonou, Republic of Benin, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of Romuald Wadagni as President.

The Vice President is expected to join other African and international leaders at the ceremony scheduled for Sunday, May 24, 2026.

The event will feature the swearing-in of Wadagni for a seven-year constitutional term, alongside his running mate, Mariam Chabi Talata, who will be inaugurated as Vice President.

Benin and Nigeria maintain long-standing historical, socio-cultural, and economic relations, with contemporary engagement often focused on border security, trade, and energy cooperation.
