The Presidency has dismissed comparisons between former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that Obi’s performance in office does not place him on the same level as the President. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga argued that Obi lacks the leadership record and political accomplishments required to be compared with Tinubu.
According to the Presidency, Obi’s eight-year administration in Anambra State did not deliver the kind of transformative impact that would justify comparisons with Tinubu’s record in public office. Onanuga maintained that effective leadership should be measured by tangible achievements and long-term development outcomes.
The comments come amid growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with key political actors increasingly engaging in debates over governance, economic reforms, and national development. The Presidency has consistently defended the administration’s policies while responding to criticism from opposition figures.
The latest exchange highlights the intensifying political rivalry between supporters of both leaders as the nation gradually approaches another election cycle. Political observers expect discussions around leadership records, policy achievements, and governance performance to remain central to the national conversation in the coming months.
