President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Tuesday commissioned major economic and infrastructure projects in Ekiti State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption and strengthening public institutions.
The projects commissioned in Ado-Ekiti included the new Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Zonal Directorate Office Complex and the 1.2-kilometre Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Flyover. The Vice President also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ), a technology and innovation hub designed to drive long-term economic growth.
Speaking during the inauguration of the EFCC office, President Tinubu declared that there would be no safe haven for corrupt individuals under his administration, stressing that the government would continue to strengthen anti-corruption institutions and ensure accountability in both the public and private sectors.
He said corruption undermines national development and weakens public trust, noting that strong institutions remain critical to Nigeria’s economic progress and democratic growth.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fiscal reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, restoring investor confidence, and creating sustainable growth opportunities for Nigerians.
Tinubu commended EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede and the commission’s personnel for their efforts in tackling financial crimes, cybercrime, and illicit financial flows, adding that government would continue to provide the support needed to enhance the agency’s effectiveness.
Earlier, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede described the new zonal office as a major milestone that would improve investigations and prosecutions across Ekiti and Ondo States while bringing anti-corruption enforcement closer to the people.
At the groundbreaking of the Ekiti Knowledge Zone, Vice President Shettima said the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and reflects the administration’s commitment to innovation, education, and human capital development.
He described Ekiti as a symbol of academic excellence and intellectual achievement, noting that Nigeria’s future prosperity would increasingly depend on investments in knowledge, technology, and innovation.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji said the Knowledge Zone would promote industrialisation, entrepreneurship, research, and investment, positioning Ekiti as a leading destination for innovation and economic development.
Meanwhile, Vice President Shettima used the occasion to rally support for Governor Oyebanji’s re-election ahead of the June 20 governorship election.
He thanked Ekiti residents for their support during the 2023 presidential election and praised the governor’s leadership, expressing confidence that voters would reward his performance with another term in office.
The Vice President also highlighted the impact of ongoing economic reforms, stating that increased allocations to states have enabled governments to execute major projects without excessive borrowing.
Dignitaries at the event included governors, lawmakers, security chiefs, traditional rulers, and other senior government officials.
