The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said that increasing the participation of women judges is essential to building a more transparent and accountable judicial system across Africa.
She made the statement at the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) African Regional Conference held in Abuja, where legal practitioners and judicial officers from across the continent gathered to discuss strengthening justice delivery systems.
The First Lady noted that the judiciary plays a critical role in sustaining democracy and ensuring fairness, adding that greater inclusion of women in judicial leadership enhances balance, perspective, and public trust in court processes.
According to her, women judges across Africa have continued to break barriers and contribute meaningfully to judicial reforms, especially in the areas of equity, access to justice, and institutional transparency.
She also reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives that promote gender inclusion and strengthen democratic institutions across the continent.
The conference brought together judges and legal experts from various African countries to exchange ideas on improving judicial integrity, ethical standards, and access to justice.
