The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported that ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States has significantly reduced the operational strength of ISIS-linked terrorist groups in the country.
According to the DHQ, joint counterterrorism efforts involving Nigerian forces and the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) have led to major disruptions in the activities of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), particularly in the North-East region.
Military authorities say the collaboration has improved intelligence sharing, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, while also enhancing the operational readiness of Nigerian troops through targeted training and support.
In recent coordinated operations, security forces reportedly neutralized about 175 ISWAP fighters, including senior commanders, across multiple locations in Borno State and surrounding areas.
A senior DHQ spokesperson noted that the partnership has strengthened Nigeria’s capacity to track, target, and dismantle terrorist networks operating within the Lake Chad Basin region.
Officials describe the cooperation as part of a sustained Nigeria–U.S. counterterrorism framework aimed at degrading insurgent capabilities and restoring stability in affected regions. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
