President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for a sustained and well-coordinated fight against corruption, urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-graft agencies to intensify their efforts across the country.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning of the EFCC’s new zonal office in Ekiti State, the President said corruption remains a major threat to Nigeria’s development, security, and economic stability.

He stressed that the anti-corruption drive must be supported by strong institutions, modern operational tools, and improved working conditions to ensure effective performance.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement agencies through infrastructure investment, capacity building, and institutional reforms aimed at improving accountability and governance.

He also highlighted the EFCC’s role in protecting the economy from financial crimes, citing recent enforcement actions and convictions as evidence of improved operational capacity.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede described corruption as a major driver of Nigeria’s political and economic challenges, noting that the commission has intensified efforts through investigations and prosecutions nationwide.

He referenced recent convictions involving high-profile financial crimes, saying they reflect the agency’s growing effectiveness in tackling corruption and illicit financial activities.

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji welcomed the establishment of the EFCC zonal office, saying it would strengthen investigations and prosecutions in Ekiti and Ondo States while improving access to justice for victims of financial crimes.

The event formed part of activities surrounding the inauguration of the new EFCC facility in Ado-Ekiti.
