The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has approved the deployment of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones as part of a new security strategy aimed at improving coordination and response to crime.

The reform, set to begin on June 15, 2026, also introduces inter-state joint patrols tagged “Handshake Patrols” to curb criminals who move across state borders after committing offences.

According to the police, the deployment will strengthen supervision at the zonal level and enhance collaboration between state commands through intelligence sharing and coordinated operations.

The IGP said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve policing efficiency and tackle insecurity nationwide. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
