The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally announced the nomination of Damilola Sonayon James as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

In her acceptance statement, James expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity, describing the nomination as a reflection of “endless possibilities” in Lagos and a reminder that there is no limit to human achievement.

She appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his leadership and contributions to strengthening democratic governance and improving Nigeria’s economic outlook. She also acknowledged First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her support and encouragement.

James extended appreciation to Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, as well as the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and his wife, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat.

She further thanked the leadership and members of the APC in Lagos State, including the State Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, and the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) led by Prince Tajudeen Olusi, for entrusting her with the responsibility.

According to her, the nomination also reflects the collective support of party stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups, and grassroots mobilisers across the state.

James specifically expressed gratitude to the people of Badagry, particularly Badagry West, where she previously served, noting that their support has been a source of inspiration.

She pledged commitment to work with the governorship candidate to consolidate progressive governance in Lagos State, describing the state as a “centre of excellence” that continues to serve as a model for other parts of the country.

She dedicated the nomination to young people, women, and girls across Lagos, expressing hope for continued engagement with supporters ahead of the election.
